What it is

A lawn that starts under the sod

Sod installation is only as good as the preparation beneath it. We grade, correct drainage and prepare the soil so new sod knits in fast and resists the summer heat and winter freeze of the U.S. Front and backyard lawns are handled as applications of the same careful process.

Most new lawns fail for one reason: the ground under the sod was never prepared. Sod laid on old thatch, lumpy soil or the wrong grade dries out, tears at the seams and thins into patches within a season, no matter how good the turf looked on the pallet.

We do the invisible work first, strip the old lawn, correct grading and drainage, and prepare a smooth, level bed of fresh soil, then lay premium sod tight and roll it in. Done in that order, the lawn knits together fast, stays even, and holds up to American summers and winters.

How it works

Our process, step by step

01 / 05

Old lawn removal

We strip out the old, tired or patchy turf and clear the surface completely, rather than laying fresh sod over dead thatch. New sod can only root into clean, prepared ground, so this first step decides whether the lawn takes or fails.

Why it matters

The difference proper prep makes

Sod laid on bad ground

  • Sod that dries out and dies in patches
  • Bumpy, uneven, lumpy lawns
  • Water pooling and soggy low spots
  • Visible seams and gaps that never knit together
  • New sod laid over dead thatch that never roots

With Verdanta

  • Even, dense, deep-green turf
  • Proper slope so water drains away
  • Tight seams that knit in fast
  • A lawn rooted and usable in weeks
  • Grass suited to sun, shade and our climate

Sod Installation FAQ

New lawns & sod, answered

What homeowners ask most about replacing a lawn, prep, watering, timing and getting sod to root.

Still have questions?

Talk to a real person who plans projects like yours every week. No pressure, no obligation.

Keep off it for about two weeks so roots can establish. We give you a watering schedule to speed rooting.

Frequent, deep watering for the first two to three weeks is critical, especially in summer heat. We provide a simple day-by-day plan.

Cost depends on the lawn area, how much old turf must be removed, and the grading, drainage and soil prep the site needs before sod goes down. Small lawns start modestly, while full front-and-back replacements are quoted per project. You get a clear, itemized estimate before we start.

No, we remove the old turf first so the new sod roots into fresh, prepared soil rather than dead thatch.

Both work well in the U.S. Cooler shoulder seasons reduce watering stress, but we install successfully through summer with proper care.

Sod gives you an instant, even, usable lawn and resists weeds far better while it establishes, which is why we install it. Seed is cheaper up front but slower, patchier and more vulnerable to washout and weeds. For a finished result that holds, sod is the reliable choice.

Yes. We correct grading and drainage during prep so the lawn sheds water instead of pooling.

Yes. Every install comes with a simple watering and establishment plan, and we can schedule the first mow and ongoing maintenance so the new lawn stays dense and healthy as it roots in.
