What it is
Beautiful on top, engineered underneath
Interlock installation lives or dies on base preparation. We excavate to the right depth, compact engineered aggregate in lifts, and build in drainage so freeze-thaw cycles do not heave your patio or driveway. The result is a hardscape that stays flat and tight for decades.
Interlock is roughly 90% the part you never see. Almost every failed patio or driveway, the heaved corner, the sunken path, the wobbly step, traces back to a base that was too thin, poorly compacted or laid without drainage. The pavers on top are only ever as good as the work beneath them.
We excavate to the right depth, compact an engineered aggregate base in thin lifts and build in drainage before a single paver is set, then lay tight, cut clean and lock the joints. Done in that order, your hardscape stays flat and tight through American freeze-thaw for decades.

Flat and tight for decades
Who this is for
Homeowners wanting a patio, walkway, driveway, steps or fire-pit area that stays level through the U.S. freeze-thaw.

Scope
What's included
A complete hardscape package, from excavation and an engineered, draining base to precise paver laying, crisp borders and locked polymeric joints. The base is where the durability is built.
Materials & methods
How it works
Our process, step by step
Excavation & base prep
We excavate to the depth the design and soil actually require, not a shortcut, and lay geotextile fabric so the base and the ground below never mix. Skipping depth here is the single most common reason patios and driveways fail.

Why it matters
The difference the base makes
Interlock on a thin base
- ✕Pavers that heave and lift in winter
- ✕Weeds and ants taking over the joints
- ✕Sunken, uneven, wobbly sections
- ✕Pooling water and no slope for drainage
- ✕A thin, skipped base that fails in a few seasons
With Verdanta
- A flat, stable surface that lasts for decades
- Drainage and slope engineered under and around it
- Freeze-thaw durability built into the base
- Tight, weed-resistant polymeric joints
- Crisp borders and clean, deliberate lines
Before & after

Interlock FAQ
Interlock, answered
What homeowners ask most about patios, walkways and driveways that stay flat through freeze-thaw.

Still have questions?
Talk to a real person who plans projects like yours every week. No pressure, no obligation.
Almost always because of a thin or poorly compacted base and trapped water. We build a proper aggregate base with drainage so freeze-thaw cannot lift it.
With a properly engineered base, several decades. Individual pavers can be lifted and reset if ever needed.
Cost depends on the area, the paver you choose, and how much excavation, base and drainage the site needs, which is where the real work is. Small walkways start modestly, while large patios and driveways are quoted per project. You get a clear, itemized estimate before we start.
Sometimes, but we usually recommend a full base build so drainage and freeze-thaw behavior are correct. We assess each site.
A jointing sand that hardens when wetted, locking pavers together and resisting weeds, ants and wash-out.
A walkway or small patio is usually a few days, while a large patio or driveway typically runs one to two weeks, depending on excavation, drainage and weather. Because the base is built in stages, we give you a realistic schedule in the proposal.
Yes, when it is built for it. A driveway gets a deeper, heavier-duty base than a patio so it carries vehicles without rutting or settling. We spec the base to the load during design.
Yes, fire-pit areas, seating walls and steps are all part of our interlock work and integrate with lighting and planting.
