How it came together
The challenge
The original asphalt driveway had reached the end of its life. Years of freeze-thaw had left it cracked, potholed and visibly heaving, with weeds pushing through every seam. It was the first thing visitors saw and it dragged the whole property down, and the uneven surface had become a genuine trip hazard for the family and their guests. Previous patch jobs had lasted a single winter before failing again, so the owners wanted a proper fix, not another quick repair that would need redoing in a year.
Our solution
We removed the failed asphalt entirely and excavated to full depth rather than laying over the problem. A thick, properly compacted aggregate base went in with the correct fall built in so water drains away from the garage instead of pooling. On top we laid interlocking concrete pavers in a bond pattern chosen for vehicle loads, locked in with polymeric jointing sand and solid edge restraints on both sides so nothing can spread or shift. A crisp planted border frames the run and softens the transition to the lawn.
The result
The entrance now reads as intentional rather than neglected. The surface is dead flat and tight, engineered to ride out freeze-thaw cycles that destroyed the asphalt, and because it is a paver system, any single stone can be lifted and reset in future without a visible repair scar. The planted edge has filled in and the whole approach to the house finally matches the home behind it.
